The Greatest Fortune

The greatest fortune in my life is having met the lamas that I did. Due to having witnessed their ways of being, faith in the dharma remains in my heart.

Without this, now when the world is full of people claiming to be Buddhist but you can hardly find anyone who acts in line with the teachings, I’m not sure my faith would have lasted. But having witnessed my lamas gives me confidence that it’s possible for such wonderful dharma practitioners to exist.

If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes though, stories of such practitioners and lamas would be exactly that, stories that only exist in the texts – I’m not sure that they would be a reality for me. But having met these wonderful monks, lamas, and dharma practitioners in person, makes me believe that there are people who are truly living the dharma. Even if I am not able to do it properly myself.
