The Obscurations Are Not Solid
A teaching by Drupon Rinpoche given at Sekar Retreat Centre, 8th of March 2015.
The obscurations are not solid. Mind is mistaken so it clings, and it is that mistakenness that stops us from seeing the Truth. We should examine our way of thinking, with its mistaken ways of seeing things, again and again until we get a feel for what is really going on there.
Through coming to know the mistakenness it will be naturally purified; it disappears with our change in view, the way we see things, because we see the Truth through our examination.
That is what is meant by the purification of the obscurations.
People with mistaken ideas, perception, ways of seeing things, cause their own sufferings and problems. To think about that is very beneficial; it doesn’t need a lot of Dharma words and reasoning to see that; it is just a matter of examining those mistaken ways of thinking.
Some people are particularly confused and you can see how it brings about their own downfall: this leads to that: to say this and to behave like that brings them down. It is not that they are bad but that their own mistaken way of seeing things brings them harm.It is very useful to look into this and see how someone thinks and how it brings them harm and puts them into a bad situation.
Look at the way that works.
