Guru Yoga

When we practise Guru Yoga, we visualise ourselves as Vajrayogini. From this, we can understand that a practitioner of guru yoga must be similar to Vajrayogini. There is good reason for this, for in Guru Yoga, we regard the lama as Vajradhara and only noble beings can encounter Vajradhara; ordinary beings cannot. So we can see just what a profoundly advanced practice this is.

Before we behold anyone to be Vajradhara, we first start to have a better impression of people in general. As we progress in the practice, we begin to see our dharma friends in a better light. We gradually see them as kinder and better practitioners; our affection for them grows, and that affection turns into faith. These days, it is rare for dharma friends to have faith in one another. But I have seen it with my own eyes in good dharma environments.

As our affection for others grows, people notice it and respond to us in turn with love and kindness. This confirms our positive impression of people and our faith; thus, we take one step closer to pure perception, the experience of a pure realm and Vajradhara..
