Three and a Half Years of Teachings on the Life and Songs of Milarepa
26 August 2026 marked the completion of a precious cycle of teachings on the Songs of Milarepa, which Drupon Khen Rinpoche began giving at Thrangu Sekhar Retreat Centre in February 2023.
For about three and a half years, Rinpoche gave teachings on the life story and songs of Milarepa, the great Tibetan yogi and one of the most revered masters of the Kagyu lineage. Each afternoon, all the retreatants of the outer retreat at Thrangu Sekhar—including children and international students—gathered with Rinpoche to receive the teachings and oral transmission. Nearly 300 students of all ages from around 30 countries took part in the teachings and sang the songs together with Rinpoche in Tibetan.
These teachings hold a particular significance for Drupon Khen Rinpoche. They were the last teachings he received directly from Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche, shortly before he passed away. Feeling a responsibility to preserve and pass on what he had received, Drupon Khen Rinpoche wished to share these precious teachings with his students.
Rinpoche has also emphasized that reading the life of Milarepa is important for anyone who sincerely wishes to practise the Dharma. Having received these teachings and oral transmission, students can continue their study by reading Milarepa’s life story and songs themselves.
The final teaching on 26 August 2026 marked the conclusion of this three-and-a-half-year journey.
Immediately after the teaching, Drupon Khen Rinpoche left for the airport to travel to Singapore, where he is scheduled to preside over the Singapore Kagyu Monlam and give teachings from 28 to 30 August.
Following the completion of this cycle of teachings on the life and songs of Milarepa, Drupon Khen Rinpoche will begin teaching Gampopa’s The Jewel Ornament of Liberation during the daily afternoon teachings.
