Shedra Week-Long Retreat at Namo Buddha
At the sacred site of Namo Buddha, at Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, the second week-long retreat of the shedra (monastic college) has now successfully concluded.
At this present time, when the precious teachings of the Practice Lineage are in a weakened state, the khenpos, teachers, and spiritual friends of the Vajra Vidya Institute resolved that the faculty and students of the shedra, beginning last year, would assemble annually for a week-long retreat, on that most special of anniversaries, the Turning of the Wheel of Dharma (the fourth day of the waxing moon of the sixth Hor month, the month of Chutö).
Moreover, the members of the shedra as a whole have now undertaken to maintain a daily morning practice session devoted to calm abiding and insight meditation. How could this be anything but a cause for great joy? Again and again, I rejoice from the depths of my heart.
As for myself, in accordance with their wish that I participate in the retreat each year and give dharma teachings, this year, too, I joined the retreat and, whether or not it proved of benefit, gave two teaching sessions daily.
