Choose the First Step Wisely
Once we begin something, it is often difficult to stop—especially when it comes to harmful habits, for example addictions. This is why we must think carefully before we enter into or commit to something.
Before taking the first step, we should ask ourselves:
What habit am I cultivating here?
If this becomes deeply ingrained in me, what kind of person will I become?
If I devote my time and energy to this, where will it lead?
We must foresee the likely destination before we set out on the path, moving forward only with clear intention.
If we choose carelessly, we bring suffering not only upon ourselves, but also upon those who love us.
But if we choose with care and discernment, we will not only achieve something meaningful ourselves, but naturally benefit others as well.
