On the first day of the New Year of the Fire Male Horse, I paid a visit to the elder brother of Kyabje Thrangu Rinpoche, Treasurer Yönten Gyatso, at the sacred site of Namo Buddha, Thrangu Tashi Yangste Monastery. Although he has now reached the age of 98, his mind remains remarkably clear and sharp without the slightest diminishment. His gracious contribution to the monastery has been immeasurable.

On the second day, I had the honour of an audience with Kyabje Nupa Rinpoche. It was wonderful to see that he is recovering somewhat from his illness. His falling ill has been a significant loss and setback for the Buddhadharma in general, and for the doctrine of the Practice Lineage in particular. I hope and pray that Rinpoche’s health may swiftly be restored and that he may continue to turn the Wheel of Dharma without interruption.
