The completion of a Six-Year Retreat
On March 21st 2021, a group of 24 monks, nuns and lay aspirants from 12 different countries concluded the first six-year retreat at Thrangu Sekhar Retreat Centre. On this day with minds brimming with faith they met the smiling countenance of the lord of refuge, Thrangu Rinpoche, and made offerings of pure white scarfs, a mandala, supports of wisdom body, speech and mind, and so forth.
Then on March 23rd (the 10th day of the 2nd Tibetan month) we held a small closing ceremony. Chief among the guests were Tulku Damcho, Choje Lama Wangchuk, senior khenpo Karma Tashi, Drupon Lama Acho, Khenpo Sherab Puntsok, and monastery managers, heads, and senior chant and discipline masters from various quarters. I would like to take this opportunity to offer my thanks to everyone who attended the closing ceremony and to all of you who have been supportive of the retreat centre.
The six-year programme was as follows:
Year one: the four one-hundred thousand preliminary practices
Year two: mind training
Year three: vajrasattava
Years four, five and six: calm abiding and insight meditation related practices
In total the retreatants practised formally for over six-years, and I am absolutely delighted that the first such cycle of retreat was concluded successfully. Most of the participants intend to continue practicing in the retreat centre, and the second cycle is ongoing. I pray from the bottom of my heart that your practice is obstacle-free and that you follow it through to completion.
