Conclusion of the One-Week Retreat With Hwayue Foundation
04.12.18 – Today Drupon Khen Rinpoche concluded a one week retreat with Hwayue Foundation. The focus of the teachings were the methods for settling and investigating the mind. Here is an excerpt from a teaching:
"Before we can have authentic meditation we must first understand the truth about mind and thoughts. For this we use analysis and investigation, but for these to be successful it is very important that we let go of any presumptions and biases. For example, if we analyse the mind with the fixed idea that we really have a mind, we will have already fallen into the extreme of existence, ‘My mind exists.’ This will skew all of our other findings so that they too will fall in to that same extreme. So it is very important that we start our analysis with a neutral, unbiased attitude. Any biases will stop you from seeing what is what.
It is like when we are having an argument with somebody. More often than not when we argue with someone, we can only conceive of the mistake being on their side, and are unable to even consider the possibility that we might be mistaken. When we argue with this mind-set we are only interested in proving the other person wrong and become totally deaf to what the other person is saying, even if they are giving clear proof that our standpoint is wrong.
If you can drop your preconceptions about whether mind exists or not when analysing, there is a chance you be able to see how the mind really is."
