Open Mind to the Dharma

The very purpose of studying and practicing Buddhism is to bring about a positive change in our minds. But that’s never going to happen if we hold to our own views, feeling that we need to defend them. It is taught that the number one obstacle on the path is holding one’s view to be supreme, and yet that’s our present approach – we see our own view as superior, and remain averse to the views of other. This attitude stops us from seeing higher truths.

Therefore, when learning and training in Buddhism, we must do our best to put our own view aside. When you’re able to be open minded, to put aside your own ideas and try to understand what’s really being said in the dharma, then the possibility of truly gaining some understanding opens up.
