Advice at the Thrangu Dharma Centre in Taipei

On the 12th of September 2014 Drupon Rinpoche was invited to give some advice at the Thrangu Dharma centre in Taipei by Lama Tsewang and the Dharma centre members.

Rinpoche started by saying how important it is to recognise our own faults and how usually we only look for and notice the faults of others.

He then went on to talk about the need to have our priorities in order if we genuinely want to accomplish the Dharma. He explained how most of us are dedicating our time to doing Dharma related jobs whilst the main priority of Dharma is to subdue our mind poisons, realise the truth of no-self, develop bodhichitta, gain the view of purity, etc. He said that although our Dharma jobs are virtuous, do they really accomplish these main priorities? If so then we can carry on as we are. If not then we need to change the way that we are going about the Dharma. In Rinpoche’s opinion since the Dharma jobs that we do are not directly related to remedying the mind poisons, for most of us they do not accomplish the most essential point of Dharma and we would therefore be wiser to dedicate our time to study and practice – that which is directly connected to the foremost priorities of Dharma.

Rinpoche expanded upon and gave many different examples regarding the above and spoke directly from the heart about how if those of us who call ourselves ‘Kagyupas’ do not meditate and practice, then our Kagyu lineage, which is known as the Practice Lineage, will soon disappear from this world.

The first hour Rinpoche spoke in Tibetan and Nyima Dondrub translated what he said into Chinese; whilst the second hour Rinpoche taught the attendees directly in Chinese.
