The Job of the Lama

The lama’s job is not to clarify the texts but to clarify the student. The lama should reveal the student’s current state of being and elucidate the changes that they need to make. Whether the student can make the changes or not, primarily depends on the student themselves. Some students may wish for a more superficial interaction with the dharma and the lama, others may be sincerely committed to a personal transformation. Either way, the lama’s job remains the same.
