Check-list

The first step in the preliminary practices is to contemplate the difficulty of finding a precious human birth.

This contemplation reveals that not just anyone can practise the dharma – one has to be free from the relevant obstacles and be endowed with the right conducive circumstances.

So we reflect on what is taught regarding the obstacles and conducive circumstances and then see whether we have what is required. If we find that we do, we should rejoice and make the most of it. If we find we are lacking some aspects, then we should work to obtain them.
