What I Must not Let Happen

I must not let my students become my servants. I have no intention of becoming a revered figurehead with those around me considering themselves my underlings. I am not working for that, with that attitude. I am working with the attitude of a father. As I see it, it is my responsibility to help those who place their trust in me to stand on their own two feet. To facilitate their growth such that they can be self-sufficient in their studies and practice and can be of service to others. I don’t need serving. If I needed to be served, how would I be capable of helping others?

I’m not in the game of gathering people around me and having them subservient to me. If I were, I would not be trying to educate and train my students as fully as I am because that would jeopardize my position as the “head”—if the students started to become more capable and knowledgeable than me. On the contrary, I hope and pray my students surpass me in all areas.
