Samye Ling 2018: The Precious Ornament of Liberation – The Spiritual Friend

Today we were privileged to receive further teachings from Drupon Khen Rinpoche Karma Lhabu on ‘The Precious Ornament of Liberation’ by Gampopa Sonam Rinchen. Having begun to teach from this text last year, Rinpoche took the time to remind us of the importance and relevance of it to the Kagyu lineage and of the need to study it well and thoroughly.

After summarising the first two chapters, Rinpoche began to teach on Chapter 3, The Spiritual Friend, interspersing his explanation of the text with guidance on how we, as Buddhists, should conduct ourselves. In this regard he emphasised the need for us to maintain a broad perspective that allows for dialogue and connection with those of other faiths, or none. He also stressed the importance of our conducting ourselves appropriately and with humility, as the basis from which to develop the higher qualities, such as renunciation and compassion, that we need on the path.
