Taking Notes in Teachings (or Not)

‘Without rules, nothing can be accomplished!’ When listening to the Dharma, we must follow the appropriate conduct – to truly benefit from it.

On June 2nd, day two of the Sekhar One-Week Retreat, Drupon Khen Rinpoche Karma Lhabu began the first session by explaining the motivation and behaviour to maintain whilst listening to teachings, integrating the concepts of the Three Excellences, the Three Faults of a Vessel, and the Four Reliances.

Addressing the frenzied scribbling down of notes during teachings — a common habit amongst students, Rinpoche gave a colourful and humorous explanation of the pros and cons of such an approach. He emphasised the vital importance of seizing the present moment of listening in order to reflect upon oneself.

In subsequent sessions, Drupon Khen Rinpoche Karma Lhabu will begin to answer the questions submitted by the retreat participants.
